Title: Thröen

Year: 2011

Medium: Modified reproduction Eames chair, fencing épée

Description: Thröen is a proposition regarding form versus function, it moves across the theoretical divide between design and art. In the process it revisits the artist’s earlier work, Critical Care, where a reproduction Excalibur sword skewers a porcelain urinal; it is a forced study in similarities and mythologies. This process of reproducing, morphing and over-writing locates the work within the evolution of Modernism, given that mutation is a predictable offshoot of such processes.
