Medium: Steel duct-work, diffuser vents, looped recording playing continuously on concealed audio system
Description: Perimeter is built to a scale that echoes the dimensions of the gallery space and is installed in such a way that viewers enter the sculpture and are surrounded by it on horizontal and vertical planes. From within the ducts of the sculpture viewers hear intermittent sounds of animals interspersed between moments of silence. These cries, howls, hoots, whimpers, grunts and growls emit from the vents at a low volume that is best heard by being close to the duct-work. The sounds are an array of animals indigenous to North America, including bears, coyotes, loons, wolves, musk-ox, wolverines, owls and woodpeckers.
