Title: Sharpening

Year: 2005

Medium: Public intervention (at Toronto International Art Fair)

Description: For this intervention the artist patrolled the art fair pulling an authentic, peddle-powered knife sharpening stone. This device was a source of independent income for Italian immigrants who pulled it along residential streets, ringing a hand-bell to announce their services. For the attendees of the art fair the artist rang the bell and offered to sharpen their invisible knives. Persons seeking these services watched as the artist held his hands to either side of the spinning stone and then placed his hands close to their head, peddling the stone rapidly until the sharpening was done.
